Artist Lynn Benson will share details about making the 2018 Beach Museum of Art Gift Print and other recent projects. Light refreshments will be served.

Legalities of Being

Artist Fidencio Fifield-Perez will describe his commitment to activism through both studio practice and non-traditional art practices embedded in community life. Fifield-Perez’s work is on view through April 12 in the Fronteras/Frontiers exhibition at the Beach Museum of Art. Join us for a free afternoon of gallery activities and art projects for the whole family.   Additional inspiration will come from the National Endowment for the Humanities “Picturing America” print set. In partnership with USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden Headstart and Early Learning, Kansas Association for the Education of Young Children (KSAEYC), and the K-State Center for Child Development.

Water Stories by Lynn Benson
2018 Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print Artist

February 13 – May 26, 2018

In 1969, the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio, burst into flames due to sparks falling on oil-covered debris floating on its surface. The news caught Lynn Benson’s attention and inspired her to study how human activity affects a vitally important resource: water. Benson’s multi-media works in this exhibition represent bodies of water impacted by development and politics.

Kansas State University Department of Art Faculty Exhibition

The works in this exhibition represent the studio practices of fifteen members of the Kansas State University Department of Art. These works, made within the last two years and varying in concept and construction, feature the disciplines of ceramics, drawing, fibers, graphic design, painting, photography, sculpture, and new media.

Classes and Workshops

The Museum hosts a variety of classes and workshops throughout the year for all ages.

Winter/Spring 2018 ARTSmart programs for families
Explore the wide variety of media found in the Beach Museum of Art’s  permanent collection and special exhibitions. “Here, and Now. The K-State Art Faculty Exhibition” provides a wide variety of inspiration for creative  youngsters.

Homeschool Tuesdays

Classes meet on the first Tuesday of the month and allow homeschool families a chance to engage with the current exhibitions. Tours are appropriate for those in Kindergarten and up.

Kansas State University Department of Art Faculty Exhibition

March 6 – May 12, 2018

The works in this exhibition represent the studio practices of 15 members of the Kansas State University Department of Art. These works, made within the last two years and varying in concept and construction, feature the disciplines of ceramics, drawing, fibers, graphic design, painting, photography, sculpture, and new media. The artists are a diverse group from across the nation and around the world who now call Manhattan, Kansas, home. Chad Alligood, chief curator of American art at the Huntington Library and formerly curator of the critically acclaimed Crystal Bridges “State of the Art” exhibition, will make remarks in the gallery during the exhibition opening reception. A digital catalogue, with a foreword by Alligood, will accompany “Here, and Now.”

Participating faculty members are Kevin Bernstein, Carlos Castellanos, Geraldine Craig, Nicholas Geankoplis, Matthew Gaynor, Rebecca Hackemann, Daniel Hunt, Shreepad Joglekar, Nancy Morrow, Mervi Pakaste, Teresa S. Schmidt, Jason Scuilla, Daniel Warner, Erin Wiersma, and Dukno Yoon.

Telling Water’s Story

Telling Water’s Story: Art, Science, and Narrative

Presentations followed by a conversation on how the visual arts, scientific practice, and journalism intersect in tackling environmental challenges. Panelists include journalist and author Cynthia Barnett, K-State Vice President for Research and professor of chemistry Peter Dorhout, and 2018 Gift Print Artist Lynn Benson. Moderated by Beach Museum of Art Director Linda Duke.

In partnership with K-State Libraries, the Collegian Media Group, Global Foods
Systems Initiative, and Prairie Studies Initiative.
