High school youth from across the nation are invited to apply for the K-State Animal Sciences Leadership Academy hosted by the Kansas State University Department of Animal Sciences and Industry and sponsored by the Livestock and Meat Industry Council. The goal of this academy will be to further develop young leaders within the livestock industry and prepare them for a successful future in this field.
The four-day session will focus on increasing knowledge of Kansas’ diverse livestock industry, as well as building participant’s leadership skills. Twenty high school students will be selected to participate based upon educational, community, and agricultural involvement, as reflected through an application process. The academy will welcome students to the Department of Animal Sciences at K-State and provide on-campus housing. Students will receive interactive leadership training at Weber Hall and tour K-State Animal Science Facilities. The program will also allow students the opportunity to tour businesses and organizations within Kansas’ livestock industry. Students will complete their experience with a team presentation competition on a current event in the animal science industry.
