Freshman encouraged to apply for Quest Freshman Honorary

Blue Key Senior Honorary would like to ask that you invite freshman members of your organization to apply for Quest Freshman Honorary. Quest is an all-freshman organization that gives a backstage pass to K-State. Students get an inside look at some of the coolest parts of campus and Manhattan, and even get to be mentored by someone in Blue Key. While the safety restrictions around COVID can make freshman year seem even more uncertain, Quest is a great way to get involved on campus. It will help students build relationships with peers and mentors that will make their freshman year memorable and fun!

If you know someone who would be a great candidate for Quest, please pass the application along to them! Here’s the link to the application. It’s open now until September 3rd at 11:59 pm.  https://kstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8Bokp1zknxlmfXv

If you have any questions at all feel free to reach out to the Blue Key membership chair Claire McClellan at clairemcc@ksu.edu.

SafeRide to launch with new service provider

A new SafeRide service provider will be launching soon for all K-State students. The CSI is in final negotiations with a new provider which will make it possible for students to request a ride via an app on their phones, no longer have to wait for a bus to pick you up from a specific stop, and get a discount on the ride so you are spending less money out of pocket to get home safe! Keep your eyes open for an email in the next few days and a formal K-State Today announcement with instructions on how to sign up.
As a celebration of this new service provider for SafeRide, we are also giving away a FREE BIKE!! How do you enter to win? Just sign the SafeRide Pledge and share the #Cats3D (Cats Don’t Drink and Drive) logo on your social media. The bike winner will be announced on Twitter (@KSU_SafeRide) on Friday, August 28 at 2pm.

Learn About Employers and Earn $$$ At The Same Time

Want to earn $200 for hosting an information session with an employer? The K-State Career Center is looking for clubs and organizations who are interested in hosting information sessions with employers called Career Center Connections. The Career Center Connection program is a new initiative to help employers connect with K-State student organizations through dynamic information sessions. Interested groups will be matched with employers based on their organization’s career field interests. Once matched, organizations will work with our team to help schedule the event. Each organization is in charge of marketing and getting student members to attend. In return, the Career Center will compensate the organizations for their help in hosting the event.

Each Career Center Connection is a one-hour information session with up to two employers held between August 31st – September 18th. Up to five student organizations can help host each session. Each organization that helps host the session and brings a minimum of 10 students will be eligible to earn $200.

How your organization will be compensated is as follows:

Host 1 Career Center Connection with a minimum of 10 students = $200

Host 2 Career Center Connections with a minimum of 10 students = $400

Host 3 Career Center Connections with a minimum of 10 students = $600 (max per organization)

To sign up to host a Career Center Connection fill out this Qualtrics Survey  by August 27th, with the career field interests for your student organization. Also, within this survey you will be able to share how many Career Center Connections your organization would be open to hosting. (The number may be less due to employer availability). To host a Career Center Connection your organization must pledge to bring at least 10 interested students.

Please note that all groups will need to either provide their department’s account number (DSO’s) or upload a copy of their organization’s W-9 Form (ISO’s) with the Pledge Form. This will allow for the payment process to flow easier. If you are unaware of how to get a copy of your W-9, please contact your organization advisor, treasurer, or accounting contact!

Please contact Christa Dell’Isola at christadellisola@ksu.edu with any questions.

We look forward to working with you!

Activities Carnival Update

NEW Recruitment Opportunity via Activities Carnival Update

Due to health and safety concerns, we are updating our plans for Activities Carnival. We are moving away from the in-person/face-to-face event as previously planned and are excited to share a new opportunity for your organization to engage with students and recruit new members virtually.

We invite your organization to host a virtual info session via Zoom from 6-8pm on Thursday, August 20th. To make this process as simple as possible, the CSI staff will create all zoom meeting links for organizations who sign-up to participate in this event. Your organization will need to designate a member to host and run the zoom meeting. You will also need to designate a primary contact from your organization whose name and email address can be shared on the event website. The CSI staff will send a confirmation email, event details and zoom meeting instructions after you sign-up.

To sign-up, please email Ashley Douglass by Tuesday, August 18 with the following information:

  • Student Organization Name
  • Zoom Meeting Host: Full name and email address of a member from your organization who will be responsible for hosting the meeting on Zoom (logging in, starting the meeting, managing any technological aspects, such as screen-sharing or break-out rooms, and ending the meeting when the event is over)
  • Primary Contact: Full name and email address of a member from your organization who we can list on the event website as a contact for new or interested members to reach out to.

If your organization has previously registered for Activities Carnival, you will need to re-sign-up following the instructions above.

If you have any questions about Activities Carnival, please contact Ashley Douglass, aldouglass@ksu.edu.

UFM Teen Mentoring Program

The UFM Teen Mentoring Program was started in 1997 as a way to offer a structured program of support and life skills to youth in grades 7-12. The goals of the project are to provide a safe, supportive and consistent environment for teens to learn positive life skills and to focus on primary prevention intervention activities. Volunteer mentors and students meet weekly after school from 3pm-5pm at UFM Community Learning Center and offsite locations. Activities are planned each week to provide guidance and build relationships through discussion, games, food and fun activities. This program wouldn’t be possible without our mentors and the students love getting to know people at K-State! If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to me at tnpfeifer@ksu.edu.

Mentor Expectations:

  • Commit to volunteering from the week of September 8 through the week of November 19.
  • Must be available on either Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursday from 3-5pm
    • Preferable availability at 2:30 to pick up students and after 5 to drop students off at home.
  • Actively participate in the group.
    • Each week we will be playing some type of game or doing some sort of activity.
  • Attend mentor meetings.
    • Meetings will be held once each month (total of around 3-4 meetings per semester). Time/dates will be decided based on mentor’s availability.
  • Exhibit positive role modeling.

If interested, please fill out the attached form and email it to me at tnpfeifer@ksu.edu.
