Personal Financial Planning

Professional Connections Day

By Martin Seay

The Personal Financial Planning program hosted its first Professional Connection Event on March 10 at the K-State Alumni Center. Representatives from fourteen financial planning firms attended to share information about their firms and recruit for internships and full-time positions. The day included firm introductions, an exhibition hall, a networking lunch and a quick connections event. A highlight was the quick connections event, during which students met with each firm for five minutes in a speed-dating-like environment to establish initial rapport. Firms were updated on the recent changes in the undergraduate curriculum, including the addition of an internship requirement and coursework options from the Entrepreneurship Program and the National Strategic Selling Institute.

Firms in attendance included Advisors Excel, Clayton Financial Services, Creative Planning, DM Bruce Associates, Edward Jones, It’s Not Just Money, KHC Wealth Management, Mariner Wealth Advisors, Meritrust Credit Union, Northwestern Mutual, Searcy Financial Services, Sound Stewardship, Reed Financial Services and The Trust Company. The event was open to any student on campus and attended mostly by personal financial planning majors. A follow up survey indicated that students and firms felt the event was a success. We are thankful to the firms that made a voluntary $250 donation to offset the costs of the event.

The second Professional Connection Event will be November 30th, 2017, and the event will become an annual event each fall. If you or your firm is interested in attending please contact Tierra Dimond or visit http ipfp.k-state.edu.
