As the saying goes, “when one door closes, another door opens.” Some stories, like Ed Kaleikau’s, aren’t as much about doors closing as they are about being adaptable and having the courage to walk through the doors opening.

University Distinguished Professors Graduate Student Award
Three Kansas State University doctoral candidates have been awarded University Distinguished Professors Graduate Student Awards for exceptional achievement in graduate studies.
Jessica Rupp, doctoral candidate in plant pathology, received a $5,000 scholarship. Bryan Cafferky, doctoral candidate in marriage and family therapy, and Clark Holdsworth, doctoral candidate in anatomy and physiology, each received $2,500 scholarships.
Rupp’s research focuses on reducing annual wheat loss due to the wheat streak mosaic virus and Triticum mosaic virus, where there is currently little resistance available. Her major professor is Harold Trick, professor of plant pathology. Continue reading “Student successes”
Alumnus selected as College of Engineering Hall of Fame inductee
Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr., 1989 graduate of Kansas State University with a master’s degree in industrial engineering, was inducted into the Kansas State University College of Engineering Hall of Fame March 29, 2014.
Induction to the hall is the highest honor bestowed on its alumni by the college. Honorees are recognized for their professional success and accomplishment, involvement with and support of the College of Engineering, dedication to the university, and professional and public service. Carol Shanklin, dean of the Graduate School, and Chwen Sheu, the Paul Edgerley chair in business administration and professor and head of the department of management, hosted two alumni events in Tapei and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
“It is always a pleasure to visit with K-State alumni and learn about their successes,” said Shanklin. They are passionate about the experiences they had as students and express appreciate to their faculty mentors for their encouragement and support.
