Helpful Hints for Juniors

The 2013-14 academic calendar year is more than halfway through and it’s hard to believe that Spring Break is right around the corner! As you get ready to wish your senior students farewell, you can start advising juniors on their college search process.

Here are a couple tips you can pass along to your juniors who are getting ready to start visiting colleges (if they haven’t already started):

  • Schedule a campus visit. K-State offers a variety of visit programs from high school students.
  • Regular campus visits are offered year round and students can schedule their visit by calling 785-532-6250.
  • Junior Days allow students to explore K-State through academic sessions, student life, dining in a residence hall, and more. Five sessions are offered during the Spring 2014 semester.
  • CBA Day is the College of Business Administration’s special visit days, where future student attend business courses, meet with business students, faculty, and staff, and learn more about K-State business majors.
  • Ask about financial aid and scholarships. K-State offers numerous scholarships to incoming freshmen each year, so it’s essential for your students to remember to meet the priority scholarship application deadline of November 1 during their senior year.
  • Explore housing options. Future K-State student should look into on-campus residence halls, Greek Life, and off-campus housing options available to them.
  • Engage in the campus environment. College is much more than just going to class and studying. K-State students are able to join one of the more than 475 clubs and organizations and first-year students are encouraged to participate in K-State First.
If you are interested in exploring a possible class visit with the K-State College of Business Administration, please call 785-532-6030 or email Recruitment Coordinator, Curtis Morisaki, at cym@k-state.edu. For general university group visits, please contact the Office of Admissions at 785-532-6250 or email groupvisit@k-state.edu

Entrepreneurship and K-State Launch

Ideas for new businesses are constantly in motion. Luckily K-State students majoring in business and other academic disciplines have the opportunity to utilize resources that can assist their entrepreneurial ideas.

The Center for the Advancement of Entrepreneurship was founding in 2008 with the goal of promoting entrepreneurship throughout the K-State campus and local community. The Center offers students both academic and non-academic experiences.

Since 2010, K-State students have had an opportunity to participate in K-State Launch, an entrepreneurship idea competition. More than $20,000 annually is awarded to the best K-State Launch ideas. Students submit an executive summary of their business idea and plan and judges select finalists. Finalists present in front of the judges at the K-State Launch finals on March 11.

K-State students can also take advantage of the Venture Accelerator, which is work space right across the street from campus. The Venture Incubator assists students with their entrepreneurial ideas and helps students start their own business.

Stay tuned for a future post covering the winning K-State Launch ideas.
