Hannah Fry, junior in AGED, has taken advantage of some great opportunities while in college.
Over the 2017 spring break, Fry traveled to Spain to study abroad. In addition to her primary degree, Fry is minoring in animal science and industry (ASI) and international agriculture, so traveling abroad just made sense. Additionally, Fry speaks Spanish so Spain was an excellent choice.
This small town, Kansan native had never been out of the country prior to her adventure across the Atlantic, so this was a unique opportunity.
“It was a trip and something I will treasure forever,” Fry says.
Once returning home and finishing the semester, the next thing on Fry’s agenda was an internship in Junction City, Kansas at the Rock Springs 4-H Center this summer. This was her second summer interning for this camp. She served as an activities instructor her first summer but this summer she took on a different role as a horseback riding instructor. What Fry enjoyed most about her internships is being able to utilize her agricultural education degree.
“Being able to work with young people, empowering them and seeing them smile is the best feeling,” Fry says. “I really love that I have been able to utilize my agricultural education degree.”
After completing her undergraduate degree, she wants to work in the industry as an agriculture teacher. While teaching, Fry plans to pursue her master’s degree with hopes of becoming an extension agent. She was a member of the meats judging team this spring to learn more about the industry and has plans of coaching in the future. Fry’s passions undoubtedly lie within teaching youth and promoting agriculture and are evident in her words and expressions.
“I love working with the kiddos and advocating for agriculture,” Fry says.
Fry is the house manager for the K-State Alpha of Clovia 4-H house where her duties include assisting with housekeeping; she really enjoys working on projects and hanging with her sorority sisters. Additionally, she loves horseback riding and watching Disney movies. Fry is 20 years old and calls Uniontown, Kansas, home.
