Story by Kaitlin Morgan, senior (ACJ)

Many of you will soon open your mailboxes to find the spring 2015 edition of the Kansas State Agriculturist. I hope you enjoy reading every single page because I know all the blood, sweat and tears that went into making this edition the best it can be for you, our readers.

I was lucky to be on the writing staff in the “Ag Mag” class this past semester. Words cannot describe how much fun I had putting together this magazine with my classmates. We chose the cover photo to symbolize how much we love our K-State family and the memories we create with them. From sharing the stories of alumni who have followed their passion, to bringing back memories of our favorite places on campus, this issue is packed with purple pride.

Growing up, my parents had season football tickets, and my favorite outfit was a K-State cheerleading uniform with matching purple shoes. I spent many Saturdays in the stadium parking lot with my family, tailgating before a big game, just as I do now. When thinking of a story topic that could resonate with Wildcats of all ages, it seemed so simple to go back to my roots in K-State football.

So, I pitched the idea for Parking Lot Party, an article showcasing the history of how tailgating became a tradition at K-State. I found the winning seasons may have helped bring us to where we are today, but that’s not what makes us special. It’s about the family.

They say you can’t pick your family, but I don’t think that’s always true. Four years ago, I chose K-State, and that was the best decision I could have ever made.
