A Year with Frog and Toad

The K-State School of Music, Theatre and Dance presents the interactive and immersive musical “A Year with Frog and Toad” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1-3 at the Chapman Theatre in Nichols Hall. It is based on the beloved children’s book series, and the show’s director and choreographer, Jerry Jay Cranford, associate professor of theatre, has added a participation element for all ages. International Education Week

Take advantage of K-State International Education Week to become more internationally and interculturally aware and learn about K-State’s many Education Abroad opportunities. Several activities will inform about initiatives that make our campus a rich and diverse arena. K-State joins the U.S. Departments of State and Education in celebrating this week to promote programs that prepare future leaders for a global and inclusive environment.

Bilingual Spanish storytime for your little loved ones

The department of modern languages has teamed up with Manhattan Public Library to present Cuenta Cuentos, a weekly bilingual Spanish-English storytime throughout November! It is aimed at children ages 3-8, but all are welcome! Find more information on the MPL event calendar.

Financial Assistance: FAFSA opens in December

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, which must be submitted to apply for federal grants, loans and work-study, will open in December, date to be determined. K-State’s priority deadline is March 1.

Graduation and Commencement

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and graduate students! The Fall 2024 undergraduate commencement ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences will be at 8:30 a.m. Sat., Dec. 14, at Bramlage Coliseum. Graduate student commencement will be at 1 p.m. Fri., Dec. 13, at Bramlage Coliseum. 

Graduating seniors, please note: 

• Undergraduate students arrive by 7:30 a.m. to line up with department. (Graduate students arrive by 12 p.m.)
• Park in the west lot. 
• Graduates enter through southwest and southeast doors. Guests enter through northwest and northeast doors. 
• Remember to bring your printed Grad Pass! 
• Place tassels on the right and pin honor cords on the left shoulder. 
• Do not carry in items like purses, cameras or anything you can’t wear under your gown. They will not be permitted on the floor. 
• Wear comfortable shoes; you’ll be standing a long time and using stairs. 
• More information is in the university’s Day-of-Celebration Guide.

Re-enrollment scholarship drawing!

The college is offering $500 scholarships for Spring 2025 tuition for four lucky students! You’ll be automatically entered to win if you meet the below criteria for Spring 2025. Winners will be drawn on Nov. 15 and notified via their K-State email. 

Student must: 

1. Have advising flag lifted. 
2. Be enrolled in Arts and Sciences degree-seeking program. 
3. Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours by Nov. 13. 
4. Be in good academic standing.

The College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee invites applications for the Arts and Sciences Diversity Lecture Series Grant, due Nov. 15. Awards are typically $500-1,000. 

Political science professor publishes book on America’s culture wars

K-State political science professor Laurie Johnson has released a new book! The Gap in God’s Country argues that America’s culture wars may seem to have erupted in the past couple of decades, but they go back centuries. Learn about the book and upcoming live sessions with Dr. Johnson. 

English professor produces documentary on awakening the Kaw language

K-State English professor Lisa Tatonetti partnered with members of the Kaw Nation and others to produce the documentary film “Creator Gives Us Language: A Story of Rematriating Kaáⁿze Íe,” which shows how members of the Kaw Nation are working to awaken their native language. Some of you might know Emily Mann, academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. Well, she was selected for K-State’s Staff Spotlight Award in August! This monthly award recognizes university staff members for their service to the K-State community.

Emily’s nominator said that she thinks strategically about each student’s case and does extensive research to help create the most efficient degree plan possible that is mindful of time and money. When students are in a rut, Emily helps them think strategically about new pathways available to them. And she is passionate about continually developing her skills as an advisor to better serve her students.

Way to go, Emily! Thanks for all you do for our students!
