  • The Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium will be Friday, May 3 from 9 am-12pm in Leadership Studies Townhall. The Symposium will include research projects from swine science, animal reproduction, small ruminant science, meat science, muscle biology, food safety, and genetics. Coffee and donuts will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!

Bingo cards are $15 per card with chances to win many unique prize bundles. Please plan to join us for a fun night and to support the grad student association within our department.   • BQA Training: The Collegiate Cattlemens Club is helping host a BQA Training taught by Dr. A.J. Tarpoff. This event hosted at the Stanley Stout Center will be April 23 starting at 6 pm. There will be free Cox BBQ sponsored by the Kansas Beef Council as well as a chance to buy tickets to win a Vaxmate Cooler that is sponsored by Bank of the Flint Hills. The whole event is free of charge and we would like to get a lot more of the students to go through a BQA training! If you would like to attend, please make sure you scan the QR code and RSVP! The form will close one week prior to the event so make sure to sign up early! Learn more about the training here.

Demo with the Deans

 

Yesterday was Demo with the Deans! The event celebrated the start of the fencing going up around Weber Arena for the construction of the new Global Center for Grain and Food Innovation. Students, faculty and staff got to learn about the Agriculture Innovation Initiative while enjoying Call Hall Ice Cream. View more photos here.

K-State wins National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS goes out to the K-State Meat Animal Evaluation Team, who claimed NATIONAL CHAMPION honors today by winning the National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest hosted at the University of Wyoming. The team outpaced all of the competition, winning by an impressive 300-point margin. The team won the Meats, Breeding, Market, Beef Evaluation and Swine Evaluation divisions. This is the fourth straight year and seventh in the past eight that K-State has earned this honor.

Individually K-State had six members place in the top 10 overall, including the top five individuals. Kyla Mennen, Logansport, Indiana, was first; Cole Murphy, Houstonia, Missouri, second; Sadie Marchiano, Fort Scott, Kansas, third; Bailey Lavender, Branford, Florida, fourth, and Sam Stickley, St Paris, Ohio, fifth. Congratulations to the team and coaches.

  • Demo Day with the Deans: Students, faculty and staff are invited to Demo Day with the Deans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 15 at the corner of Mid-Campus Drive and Claflin Road by the International Student Center. This College of Agriculture event celebrates the start of the fencing going up around Weber Arena for the construction of the new Global Center for Grain and Food Innovation.   • Kansas Meat Processors Association (KMPA) Scholarship: The Kansas Meat Processors Association (KMPA) is a trade association of small to medium-size independent meat businesses and their suppliers. Business is conducted by elected officers and a Board of Directors. Problems of the industry are identified and positions on issues related to their businesses are communicated to governmental agencies or elected officials. Major activities sponsored or co-sponsored by KMPA include: 1) the annual convention with a processed product competition and trade show; 2) the Midwest Meat Processors Workshop at Kansas State University; 3) annual legislative receptions; 4) interaction with other agricultural trade associations; and 5) student scholarships in Meat Science at KSU.
