K-State Rodeo

The K-State Rodeo took place this past week on September 6-8 at CiCo Park. There was a great crowd and great weather to kick off their season. Results are as follows:

  • Stranton Oftendahl, Freshman, – steer wrestling- 5/6th in the long round, 1st in the short round, 1st in the average
  • Chancy Johnson, Senior – breakaway- 1/2/3rd- in the long round
  • Walker Goffard, Freshman – Steer wrestling 13th
  • Karsyn Fuchs, Sophomore – goat tying- 15/16th

K-State College of Agriculture is ranked No. 8 in Niche.com’s 2025 rankings

Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture has once again been recognized as a top 10 college by Niche.com in its annual ranking of the Best Colleges for Agricultural Sciences. In the 2025 list, K-State ranks No. 8.

The Niche.com ranking is based on an analysis of academic, admissions, financial and student life data collected by the U.S. Department of Education, plus millions of reviews from students and alumni.

“We are once again honored that K-State is included in Niche’s top 10 list for 2025 Best Colleges for Agricultural Sciences in America,” said Ernie Minton, Eldon Gideon dean of the College of Agriculture and director of K-State Research and Extension. “Niche.com’s data and survey results show what we are passionate about — academic excellence, faculty approachability and student experience.

“A key component of K-State’s vision to become the ideal next-generation land-grant university is the College of Agriculture’s Agriculture Innovation Initiative,” added Minton. “This includes not only new, state-of-the-art facilities across campus, but also new teaching and research approaches that will enable us to recruit and retain world-class faculty and researchers.

“Through our teaching we will educate and strengthen the future leaders and workforce of agriculture, preparing them to tackle the opportunities and challenges they face and help feed a hungry world,” Minton said.

Recruitment Events

The Presence of Purple was out and about this weekend with students attending the Kansas State Fair and the Youth Horse Show at the American Royal in Kansas City. Both were successful opportunities to interact with future K-State students and alumni.

K-State Animal Sciences & Industry Mentors and College of Agriculture Ag Ambassadors teamed up to have a booth between livestock barns this past week at the Kansas State Fair on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With a ‘Cats win on Saturday, there was a lot of excitement and traction through the booth.

 

The K-State Horse Judging Team hosted a Quarter Horse Judging Clinic September 7 during the Quarter Horse Show at the American Royal in Kansas City. Team members hosted a giveaway and spent time interacting with the 55 participates sharing information about being K-State College of Agriculture students.

  • STOCKER FIELD DAY –

Join us for the 24th Beef Stocker Field Day to be hosted on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the KSU Beef Stocker Unit in Manhattan. If you’d like to join for just the lunch portion, please let Katie Smith know in advance by Thursday, September 19 so there are accurate meal counts. You can pick up a lunch ticket in advance from Katie in 218 Weber Hall.

We have a great program lined up for you.  We’ll offer practical information and management tips to help achieve greater flexibility and optimize your stocker operation in the evolving beef industry.  We will be serving a bbq beef lunch.  The day will conclude with a good old-fashioned prairie oyster fry.

  • HENRY C. GARDINER GLOBAL FOOD SYSTEMS CONFERENCE & LECTURE:
    • Conference – K-State Alumni Center, October 7 – Noon to 4 p.m.
    • Lecture – Scientist Peer Ederer will be the featured speaker. His talk is titled “Scientific Evidence Behind the Role of Livestock and Meat Production in a Global Society”. Read more here.

  • The College of Agriculture is hosting a networking night open to all ag students with over 30 employers on Monday, September 23 from 6-8 p.m. Please encourage your students to register for the event.
