FALL UNDERGRADUATE SYMPOSIUM: As the semester winds down, we are quickly approaching the Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium! Please plan to join us on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 9 am – noon at the Town Hall in Leadership Studies.  Students will be presenting posters on both course-based research projects and independent research projects. Coffee and donuts will be provided!

ASI CLOTHES DRIVE: The Department will be collecting gently used coats and hoodies and new hats, gloves and socks for communities in need. Donations can be dropped off in Weber 134 or Call Hall 139 until December 1.

K-STATE SWINE DAY: Plan to join us Thursday for the Annual K-State Swine Day hosted at the K-State Alumni Center. The full program for the event can be found here, https://www.asi.k-state.edu/swineday.

 

CONGRATULATIONS KSU DAIRY CATTLE JUDGING TEAM: On Nov. 4, the KSU Dairy Cattle Judging Team competed in the 41st NAILE Invitational Dairy Judging Contest in Louisville, Kentucky. Team members pictured (left to right): Sarah Jordan (Rutland, MA), Samantha Schwindt (Hillsboro, KS), Ellie Vincent (Boyce, VA), Alicia Bohren (Longmont, CO), and Coach Kelsey Pasch. Individuals not pictured include team member Charlie Bestwick and coaches Billy Brown and Rachel Skinner.

The team continues to achieve its goals, and this highlighted through their success from the contest below.

Dr. Teresa Douthit received Charlie Award

Congratulations to Dr. Teresa Douthit, Academic Advisor and Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, for being selected for the November Charlie award. TEMPLE GRANDIN: Temple Grandin presented the “Importance of Good Stockmanship” to ASI 515: Beef Science and “Insights into Animal Behavior & Autism” to ASI 655: Behavior of Domestic Animals on Friday, November 3. Thank you to the Kansas Horse Council for providing these lectures to our students.

KIHO LEE’S SEMINAR: Kiho Lee, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the University of Missouri, will provide a seminar presentation titled “Genome editing in livestock – current progress and possibilities.” The schedule for the presentation is outlined below.
