MEAT JUDGING TEAM WINS EASTERN: The 2023 KSU Meat Judging Team continued its fall season with a win at the Eastern National contest this past weekend in Wyalusing, PA. Kansas State was followed by the teams from West Texas A&M (2^nd), Texas Tech (3^rd), Texas A&M (4^th), and Oklahoma State (5^th). This marks the 3^rd time in the past 5 years K-State has won this contest, officially retiring the challenge trophy. The Kansas State team is coached by graduate student Lindsey Decker and Dr. Travis O’Quinn.

DAIRY CATTLE JUDGING TEAM: The dairy cattle judging team competed in the Vernon County Dairy Judging Contest on Sunday, September 17 in Viroqua, WI. Team members consisted of (left to right in picture) Alicia Bohren (Longmont, CO), Sarah Jordan (Rutland, MA), Charlie Bestwick (Sabetha, KS), Samantha Schwindt (Hillsboro, KS), and coach Kelsey Pasch. The team is also coached by Billy Brown and Rachel Skinner.

CELEBRATE AG DAY BOOTH: Thank you to Rachel Stadel, Maci Mueller, David Grieger and Nicholas Dias for hosting the ASI booth in Bramlage for the AG Day Football Game on Saturday, September 23. There were around 30 booths around the concourse – the big crowds were around the ASI booth. Visitors learned about eggs and shell color, took a test on animal sciences, and followed the reproductive process from viewing sperm in a microscope to learning how to detect a pregnancy in our cow palpation model.

Extend your thanks to Dave Nichols and Tim Carson for the aid they provided to the event planners of the University’s (President and Dean) event to Celebrate AG at the Stout Center on Friday night.

CELEBRATE AG DAY SUMMIT: K-State Animal Sciences & Industry participated in the Celebrated Ag Day Summit hosted by the College of Agriculture. High school students were able to explore programs through a program fair and attend workshops throughout majors in the College of Agriculture. The ASI Department hosted a workshop on Animal Protein vs. Alternative Proteins, Innovation in the Swine Industry and Animal Unit Tours. Thank you to Mason Prestor, Dr. Bob Goodband and Kristen Kahler for helping with the sessions.
