As a follow-up and connected component of the K-State Feedlot Management Collegiate Boot Camp hosted this past March, 16 students participated in a “feedlot animal health and processing experience” at Tiffany Cattle Co., Herington, Kansas, last Thursday, April 25. Experts from Zoetis, a key program sponsor, facilitated discussion and activities regarding feedlot health management. Tanner Stucky discussed the background, mission and organization of Tiffany Cattle Co. Dr. Chris Cox, former K-State ASI and CVM graduate is a veterinarian with Spur Ridge Vet Services, Marion, KS, and consulting vet for Tiffany Cattle Co. He led Boot Camp participants through a necropsy/”realizer demonstration” regarding proper injection sites, practiced processing cattle, discussed cattle health and nutritional management and feedlot industry challenges/opportunities.

The goal of the program is to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and professional relationships in feedlot management to help meet the critical need for trained professionals in the industry. Several students who have participated in the program will be participating in summer internships in the feedlot industry. This is the sixth year of the K-State Feedlot Boot Camp and Teaching Program.

In attendance was Abby Blackwell (right), Cattle Manager at Tiffany Feedlot in Herington. She was a member of the 2021 Feedlot Management Collegiate Bootcamp, following graduation took a job with Tiffany Co. Feedlot. It is great to see how our program connects undergraduates to future career opportunities.
