K-State Swine Team Hosts Swine Day and Student Edition

The 2023 K-State Swine Day was very successful! More than 500 producers and allied industry reps from 21 states along with Kansas State University students, faculty and staff attended this year’s event hosted at the KSU Alumni Center. Several of the participants commented on the great program and fellowship that was shared. Twenty-nine exhibitors and 19 additional sponsors shared their new technology during the trade show and were very complimentary for the opportunity to interact with pork producers and students. During the day, K-State faculty and graduate students presented updates on applied research findings and Dr. Wayne Cast shared “Lessons from a Legacy in the Swine Industry.”
The 2023 Swine Day Report contained 40 research papers summarizing 43 experiments utilizing 131,719 pigs. The report along with videos of the presentations are available on KSUswine.org.
SWINE DAY – STUDENT EDITION: Hosted simultaneously with Swine Day, 23 high school students attended the KSU Swine Day Student Edition on November 16. The students explored the trade show, heard from a panel of current K-State students, learned about technology use in the swine industry, and participated in a biosecurity activity. Highlights included Tim Stroda from KPA discussing the swine industry and Lannin Zoltenko showing students how to evaluate boar semen. Students finished the day with tours of ASI animal units and facilities followed by Call Hall Ice Cream.
