The Communication Studies Department was awarded a significant amount of new space in Nichols Hall. The department main office is now located in Nichols Hall 234. The space provides offices for 15 full time employees, over 20 graduate teaching assistants, student employees, and part-time employees. This includes team suites for the debate and forensics programs.
Debate coach Joe Koehle noted, “The move will allow K-State Debate to move back into Nichols Hall, enabling coaches and students to work more closely together as we prepare for debates. We are looking forward to providing our graduate assistants with more space that they can call their own, which should help them be more productive coaches, teachers, and students.”
In addition, new classroom space will allow us to teach all of our undergraduate major and graduate program courses in Nichols Hall.
“Sharing space brings people closer together, literally and figuratively,” said Dr. Soo Hye Han, assistant professor of Communication Studies. “This expansion means our students and faculty will have more opportunities to interact and build a stronger, even more vibrant community. Just imagining what all of us, who are in the business of enhancing human communication and learning, can do together under one roof is exciting to say the least. Life in the castle is pretty good now, and it’s going to get even better.”
