First Scholars served on Martin Luther King Jr. Day making it a day on, rather than a day off. Scholars worked with the American Red Cross and local volunteer Firefighters to promote fire safety. Scholars worked in groups to go door to door testing and installing smoke detectors. If residents were not home, Scholars left important information regarding fire safety. Scholars installed over 70 smoke detectors.
