Thank You Letters

From Maxine Ganske in Paul Weigel Library

To Gerry Negron:

Thanks so much for the hard work and extra effort of you and Wanda to provide our small computer lab a carpeted floor! Wow, it looks so nice and hopefully will take care of the wax wear problem caused by the movement of the chairs. I really appreciate everything you do for Weigel Library. I try hard to provide the students and faculty of APDesign a nice, comfortable and inviting space and your team certainly helps me do that.

Thanks again, Gerry, for all you and your staff do for Seaton and especially for Weigel Library!

From Virginia Houser at McCain

Dear Mr. Woods:

On behalf of the McCain Music Wing personnel, I am writing to bring your attention to Jonathan Bagwell’s exemplary work in our building. Jonathan has proven to be very hardworking and conscientious in his custodial duties and goes beyond the normal expectations of his position. He has taken it upon himself to bring attention to safety issues, including proper railings for a sight-impaired student in the department and appropriate placement of bike racks in icy weather. Jonathan is also diligent in keeping an eye on things askew around McCain. In one instance he repaired a framed poster in a hallway. I also have known him to clean areas in his co-worker’s part of the building while that person was away on sick leave last semester, giving particular attention to the crucial bathroom areas. I have also seen Jonathan help visitors find their way around the building.

Jonathan has also developed a caring rapport with the students; he’s a favorite of theirs! The accompanying poster was made available one afternoon for faculty and students to sign; it was filled with written support in a short time.

In summary, Jonathan exemplifies an excellent employee who’s not only a terrific custodian for his cleaning abilities, but also for his pride in the building’s upkeep and his caring for its staff and students. We all strongly support commendation and recognition of his stellar work.

Sincerely,

Virginia Houser

Official University Address Standard Moving into Compliance with 911 Address

By Loleta Sump

Prompted by changes to the United States Postal Service addressing guidelines, K-State adopted the current official address standard format (room number, building name) in the early 1990s.  Little connection existed between the mailing address and emergency responses to campus locations.  On April 1, 2015, emergency services for Riley County, city of Manhattan and K-State began utilizing a dispatch program that requires the more typical city street address format, such as 1735 Claflin Avenue.  In order to be in compliance with the 911 addressing criteria, and yet retain the important room number, building name elements, K-State’s official address standard format will now include the city street address.  For example:

110 Anderson Hall
919 Mid-Campus Drive North
Manhattan, KS 66506-0110

Moving to the more specific bona fide street address format will improve the ability of emergency services such as fire, EMS and police to respond more quickly and efficiently and will strengthen student safety with the LiveSafe App.  Additionally, this address format will allow K-State to become more “user” friendly by enabling visitors, family and friends to find their way on the Manhattan campus using modern tools such as Google Maps.

Implementation will be straight forward.  Current supplies of letterhead and envelopes may be used through June 30, 2016.  When ordering letterhead, University Printing will use the new address for your building in the return address and on business cards.

You Can’t Take it “ALL” with You When You Go

By Larry McGee

We have all heard it before, that old adage “You can’t take it with you when you go!”  Whether it is the million dollars you have stashed under your mattress, the coin / stamp collection, spoons, thimbles, antiques, or whatever it may be.  This is about not being able to take it “ALL” with you because you can take some of something if you have enough to cash it in or you can give it all away, IT’S YOUR CHOICE.

This article is discussing the SHARED LEAVE PROGRAM. A lot of what I am going to tell you is from the K-State Policy and Procedures Manual, PPM Chapter 4860.  Most of you know that the Shared Leave Program is an optional medical leave program for those who are out of leave, but there are some misnomers out there about the details of the program.  This is an attempt to explain the program as clearly as possible.

For those who are eligible employees and who are experiencing a physical or mental health condition that is serious, extreme, or life threatening and who have exhausted their leave balances, the Shared Leave Program at K-State can help.  What I want everyone to understand is how that program is managed, how the leave donations are managed, and how those leave hours are applied.  Continue reading “You Can’t Take it “ALL” with You When You Go”

Grounds Crew Preparing for Graduation

Grounds
Fairchild Hall

KSU Facilities Grounds and Landscape Services display the famed purple and white in many of their planting beds and have always taken pride in our KSU Landscape.  We’ve had a busy spring getting ready for Open House by cleaning up beds, spraying for weeds, trimming shrubs and trees, and mowing and starting up irrigation systems.

Graduation is only weeks away, we will continue planting flowers and prepare for the Graduates’ special day, which is a great reason for pictures! Most of the flowers that we plant on campus are raised by the Horticulture classes.

Customer Service Desk Costs

The Facilities Customer Service Center has been operational for nine months.  During that time, we have created approximately 16,000 work orders from service requests received from departments.  One of the most common questions we get asked is, “do we have to pay for this?”

First, be assured, when it comes to issues such as reporting a light being out or any other safety concern, please call the Facilities Service Center at 532-6389 and submit a service request.  Any issue that is safety related is more than likely the responsibility of Facilities to repair or maintain and represents no expense to a department.

Thank You Letters

From Roberta Johnson in Hale Library:

I just want to thank all of those involved from Custodial and Security that assisted with the incident in the Library on Saturday, regarding a man who had been assaulted elsewhere and had ended up at Hale.

Our staff greatly appreciate the prompt assistance, both to the individual and to the library building and furnishings.   Everyone who was involved has spoken highly of yourselves and staff for getting assistance and taking care of the gentleman.

Thanks for all you do every day here at Hale – but especially for the extra effort on Saturday.

Roberta

From Loleta Sump in Special Events:

April was a busy month for special events.  Two of the events required substantial support from our facilities teams, All University Open House and the UPC PROUD concert featuring Dustin Lynch.  A great big shout out to the following teams:  Moving and Hauling, Teams 1 and 3, Landscaping, Custodial, Construction, Storeroom, and any others that I did not mention.  Truly, these large events are a team effort and I appreciate each and every one of you for helping them be successful!  Thank you!
