The Youth Veggie Garden Project is a free program for all youth in Harvey County who have completed kindergarten through 4th grade. Each youth participant receives several free plants and seeds to grow throughout the summer. After growing these plants, participants have the option of entering plants in the Harvey County Fair for display. All entries are judged on a participation basis.
Gardening with kids is a great family bonding experience that can teach life skills, too. After learning to care for their garden throughout the summer, youth will have great pride in their plants when they enter them in the Harvey County Free Fair.
To register, please complete the form which can be found at http://www.harvey.k-state.edu/4-h/ or pick one up at the Harvey County Extension Office. This project is free to participate in. Registration forms should be completed and brought to the Harvey County 4-H Building on May 5, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. to pick up free plants and planting instructions. *Supplies are limited to first 100 participants.
The Harvey County Fair gives 4-H and community members a chance to demonstrate mastery of a subject. Youth ages 5 to 18 can join 4-H, where they will have the opportunity to master many different subjects, with over 30 projects to choose from. To learn more about 4-H, call (316) 284-6930 or visit www.harvey.k-state.edu. 4-H membership is not required to participate in the Veggie Garden Project.
