The Harvey County fair is August 4-8th. This year, the fair theme is “Heroes in the Heartland.” During the fair, 4-H Ambassadors will be hosting a fundraiser called “Kiss the Goat”.
Temperatures are rising and our 4-H calendars are filling up now that the County Fair is only three weeks away. Our 4-H members are putting the finishing touches on projects that they have created this year and working with their livestock daily to get them ready to show. The County Fair is a time for 4-H’ers to showcase their experiences and demonstrate mastery of a subject. In a few days we will celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July. With barbeques, parades, and firework shows we celebrate and take pride in our country. This patriotic celebration brings to mind a 4-H project that teaches youth about countries, cultures, communities and themselves: the 4-H citizenship project. This weekend we will head to Rock Springs 4-H Center for our annual Sunny Hills camp. Sunny Hills is full of fun and excitement for campers, from horseback riding to learning to shoot a bow and arrow. The new and engaging activities are endless. That is the traditional camp experience, but it is so much more — developing children who are better equipped to lead in the 21st century with skills such as independence, empathy, the ability to work as part of a team, and a broader world view. Last week I was locked in a room with my fiancé and six of his family members, where we were given 60 minutes to escape. As the door shut behind us, chaos erupted for the first five minutes. We were scouring the floors, ceilings and windows. We tried random combinations on locks and flipped through pages of books, all of us looking for clues about how to escape. About five minutes in we managed to find a clue which unlocked a small lock on a file cabinet, leading us to the next clue. Continue reading “Escape Room”
