National Volunteer Week

One of the first lessons that I learned as an Extension Agent is that I can’t do it all. 4-H volunteers play a vital role in the success of our programs. April 23rd through 29th, 2017 is National Volunteer Week. Harvey County 4-H is encouraging community members to use this week as a time to thank volunteers in their lives. Whether it is a phone call or a thank you note, join us in recognizing the volunteers who have impacted your life. Continue reading “National Volunteer Week”

Empowering Youth

One of my favorite things about my job is that I get to visit local 4-H Community Club meetings. We have seven of these clubs in Harvey County. Two that I visited this month were the Sedgwick Sunflowers 4-H Club and Burrton 4-H Club.

If you have been involved with 4-H, you probably know that most of these meetings start out similarly. A president and secretary sit at the front of a meeting room, Continue reading “Empowering Youth”

Happy spring, 4-H families!

This time of year always seems to bring packed schedules for the whole family. Spring can often seem like a rush to get to summer. Carving out time to work on 4-H projects may seem impossible, but we know how valuable that quality time is for youth and adults.

I hope you will find the time to relax and enjoy time with your family and friends this spring.

Stress Awareness Month

April is national Stress Awareness month. Whether you are one to hide from stress or embrace it, stress if a fact of life. This is a great time to think about how your stress affects everyone in the family- both adults and youth. Stress generated by an approaching deadline or the need to get the grass mowed before it rains can be a motivating factor. What is called “distress,” may be generated by an accident, job loss, illness, change or event that can disrupt physical and emotional well-being. Continue reading “Stress Awareness Month”
