Hospitality Management students place second at international competition

Four hospitality management students received second place in the STR (Smith Travel Research) market competition which was held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York on Nov 11, 2018. The team of students included Emma Bartlett, Christina Hoops, Kyle Hulsing and Dakota Nelson, all seniors within the lodging track.

The competition featured approximately 33 teams representing universities from around the world. The K-State team selected a Kansas City market to research and analyze their market data.

This market study was a part of a research project in the Advanced Hotel Operations class. During the class, an internal competition was held to determine the best student team to represent K-State in New York. The selected K-State team was advised by Jichul Jang, assistant professor in the Department of Hospitality Management.

“I am very proud of our student team,” said Jang. “This competition is a great opportunity for students to work with real market data and make a presentation in New York. I look forward to challenging new students in next year’s event.”
