Hospitality management’s student ambassadors

This fall the Department of Hospitality Management debuted a new opportunity for current students to get involved in the recruitment of new students locally and across the state. For the 2016-2017 academic year, six hospitality management ambassadors will serve one year terms which will include presenting information sessions to high schools about the hospitality industry, K-State and hospitality management as a program of study. The ambassadors will also assist department staff with prospective student visits and increasing campus awareness of the hospitality management program.

Two of six 2016-2017 ambassadors: Chelsea and Sarah

Chelsea PaulChelsea Paul is a senior in the restaurant and foodservice management track from Derby, Kansas. Paul’s favorite class was Food Production Management. She became an ambassador because she loves the major and desires to help future students see the wonderful benefits that come with majoring in hospitality management. As an ambassador, Paul looks forward to “traveling around and seeing students who want to become hospitality managers.”

Sarah WrightSarah Wright is a senior in the lodging management track from Olathe, Kansas.  Wright’s favorite class was The Business of Wedding Consulting. She became an ambassador because she wants future Wildcats to know all about the opportunities with a hospitality management major. Wright looks forward to showing prospective students around Justin Hall and sharing her past experience of being a first year K-State student.

K-State and K-State Olathe form hospitality management partnership for KC metro area

Olathe CampusMore than six decades’ worth of hospitality management training and education is being brought to the Greater Kansas City area, thanks to Kansas State University’s department of hospitality management expanding its academic program to K-State Olathe.

In July, the department hired Jim Storey as a professor of practice in hospitality management for K-State Olathe. Storey instructs the “Facility, Risk and Security Management” and “Professional Club Management” courses for the department at the Manhattan campus. He also is coordinating the development of an undergraduate degree completion program for students in the Greater Kansas City area.

Efforts are underway to establish a 2+2 program in hospitality management for students in Greater Kansas City. While the 2+2 program is still being developed, the idea is that students who attend Johnson County Community College for two years could seamlessly transition to K-State Olathe and complete a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management with two more years of coursework at the Olathe campus.
