HM Alumni Group Lead One of the Newest KC-area hotel

What happens when four K-Staters come together in one iconic location to operate The Hotel Kansas City?  One of the newest members of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, it is only fitting that Ryan Baldwin, general manager, a Kansas City native and 2001 graduate of hospitality management program should lead what was once The Kansas City Club. Colleen Burke-Myers, Director of Engineering, graduated in 1993 from the hospitality management program and Tyler Gulledge serves as Director of Finance and graduated from K-State in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.  Matt Peak, who is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from K-State Olathe works as a culinarian at the property.

COVID-19 and the Hospitality Management Classroom, Part II

TDA 24.5

After a year hiatus due to Covid-19, the K-State Hospitality Management’s annual Travel and Dining Auction is back. As not to disappoint, this year we are going totally VIRTUAL and renaming this year’s auction to the 24.5 K-State Hospitality Management Travel and Dining Auction. This auction is the largest student fundraiser in the College of Health and Human Sciences and is planned and organized by students in the Hospitality Management TDA class. Proceeds are used to fund Hospitality Management student scholarships, and to fund activities for both the Hospitality Management Club and Hospitality Management Graduate Club.

The virtual auction begins MARCH 29 at 8:00 a.m. and will continue to APRIL 9, 2021 at 8:00 p.m.

HM Graduate Students Represent at the Annual Graduate Education Conference

The Department of Hospitality Management was well represented at the 26th Annual Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism from Jan. 8-9, 2021.

Three doctoral students and four faculty participated in the conference. Overall, there were 250 presentations from numerous universities.

Lacy’s @ Home Serves the Campus Community

With limited foot traffic in Justin Hall during lunch service, instructor Erica Bauer initiated a few new initiatives this fall to help provide learning experiences for students in the Lacy’s food production Lab.  One is a new weekly meal replacement program called Lacy’s at Home, which has grown in popularity with a steady increase in sales from its inception.  The students prepare Kansas homestyle favorites, such as Shepherd’s Pie, Bierocks, and Tamales, for customer to purchase to take-home, reheat, and serve.
