COVID19 and the Hospitality Management Classroom

Just as COVID19 has impacted everyone across the United States and certainly the hospitality industry, it has certainly impacted the classrooms in Justin Hall and throughout the Kansas State campus.  Seemingly overnight, the hospitality management faculty were faced with transitioning their on-campus classrooms to the online environment and students were sent back home to complete the semester. Department moves Online with the MS Degree

We are excited to announce that starting in fall 2020, the Department will offer the master’s degree program in hospitality administration online. Prospective students can complete their advanced degree program 100% online with asynchronous (students can review lessons when it is convenient) yet highly engaging learning modules. 24th Annual Travel and Dining Auction

Preparation for the 24th Annual Travel and Dining Auction students were in full stride in early-March, putting together baskets and packages and working the phones to solicit donations.  All that came to a screeching halt after spring break due to COVID-19, when the university moved to virtual instruction and all large events were canceled.  “The students were ready and very disappointed that the auction could not take place.  Thousands of dollars in donations were received, and the food had been tested by the capstone food service management class”, stated Nancy King, instructor for auction.  “It’s like many events, things change, and you have to ‘go with the flow’; all part of the event planning process.”

Student Spotlight

Casandra Rodriguez is a sophomore in hospitality management with a minor in business from Ulysses, KS.  When she gradates in 2022, she intends to go into the lodging and tourism industry, where she can serve others and inspire their sense of adventure and travel.  Casandra has traveled to five different countries, including Finland and Spain, which were both part of exchange experiences, the first through 4-H and the other through Rotary.  Through these travels, she found a passion for it and knew that a hospitality management degree would fit well into her life plans.  Continue reading “Student Spotlight”
