LA 50th Anniversary

The Fall 2014 semester provided two significant opportunities to celebrate the power of planning and landscape architecture at Kansas State.

The Planning Accreditation Board Site Visit in October confirmed the strength of our historic focus combined with our new directions. Students, faculty, alumni, university administrators, employers and  APA members met with the Site Team to share their perspectives about our program. The exhibit of student work demonstrated student progress through the curriculum that culminates in high quality, independent work in the final year of study.

November 7-8 we celebrated 50 years of landscape architecture with alumni from 34 of our 50 years of graduates. It was exciting to see alumni, faculty and students meeting one another for the first time and also reconnecting with old friends. Please read more about the celebration and view the pictures linked to the article in this issue. We missed those who weren’t able to join us but it is not too late to be a part of the celebration! You’ll find information about how to participate in the Alumni Register, purchase a celebratory book and contribute to future student excellence in the article inside this newsletter.

Our celebrations have given me time to reflect on our wonderful students and faculty, past and present. You are a remarkable group whose individual and collective accomplishments have shaped planning and landscape architecture in the Midwest and made significant contributions across the country and the world. Thank you for all you do to support our current and future students. I am deeply appreciative of your generosity and humbled by your achievements.

Wishing you holiday cheer and a happy new year,

Stephanie Rolley
