In the last six months, the Department of Agronomy has taken a big step in its social media efforts; to complement the already existing Facebook page, the Department has joined Twitter.
The Facebook page is more of a “family side” of the events of the Department and its students. The goal of the Twitter account is, “for the practicing professional, and to provide useful information that they’ll actually use in their job or as producers themselves,” says Gary Pierzynski, Agronomy Department Head.
Pierzynski added that he had been using Twitter on a personal basis and quickly began to see the value in following relevant people and organizations. The speed that information moves on Twitter matches well with how often information flows and changes in the Agronomy world.
“If they’re interested in anything Agronomy, they’ll find value in what we have. We’re trying to time these tweets to provide information when they’re going to need it,” says Pierzynski.
He also added that another advantage for the Twitter account is the ability to track the interests of our followers and then further tailor the information that we offer, and the presentation method, to their needs so as to increase the overall impact of what we offer to our clientele.
