Meet our International students

This semester, we are hosting two in-coming undergrad students. Learn more about them.

César Plaza, Undergrad student at University of Franche-Comté, France

I’m Cesar Plaza, I live in Thonon-les-bains (France) and I study at university of Franche-Comté. For my 3rd years of B.Sc. earth science, I had the opportunity to study abroad with an exchange program with Kansas State University.  My goal is to become a geotechnical engineer and for that I need to complete a master’s degree. Therefore, I’m studying a Geology engineering track at the University of Franche-Comté. For this degree, I need an experience of 3 months abroad and a B2 level in English.

This exchange program is a great opportunity for me to improve my English and to experience life in a different country. Thanks to this exchange program, I am discovering a new culture, new working methods, and gaining a broader perspective of the world.

Here at KSU everything is set up for the wellbeing of students and to ensure their success in the best conditions. The facilities are modern, the campus is very pleasant and the housing at Jardine is really good. There is a very large selection of courses and those I have chosen are very interesting. There are very good teachers who listen and answer our questions.

To conclude, I was very well received here, I quickly felt comfortable, and I was immediately in the best conditions to work. This experience gave me new perspectives of future such as working abroad, discovering new cultures, and getting out of my comfort zone.

Quinton Van Bever, Undergrad student at University of Franche-Comté, France

My name is Quinton Van Bever, I live in Switzerland in a small village called Vallamand. I am currently a geology undergraduate in Besancon at the Université de Franche-Comte. This semester I am taking part in an exchange program between my home university and K-State.

For the future, my objective is to get my master’s degree in geothermics at the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland and to get a job in geothermics. The reason for which I am studying geothermics is simple: I love math, physics, and geology; plus, it is a renewable source of energy, which makes me believe that there is a big future for this sector.

This exchange program is a unique opportunity for me to study abroad. It has enabled me to live in a foreign country and build myself a life in a brand-new place. This is also an extremely good opportunity for me to build up a new friend network as well as a professional network abroad.

At K-State I have the impression that everything is set up in a way that directly benefits the students, the facilities here are extremely nice with modern equipment and really nice classrooms. The wellbeing of students also is really important here with many opportunities for us students to network through career fairs, a really nice open gym to do some sports and meet people with similar interests as you. The teachers here are also really nice and are always ready to help out if needed for our different assignments.

Overall, I have been having a blast since I arrived in Manhattan meeting new people from all over the place that have different cultures, passions, … I am extremely comfortable here and feel like even if I have only been here for short amount of time, I am a part of K-State.
