Preparation for the 24th Annual Travel and Dining Auction students were in full stride in early-March, putting together baskets and packages and working the phones to solicit donations. All that came to a screeching halt after spring break due to COVID-19, when the university moved to virtual instruction and all large events were canceled. “The students were ready and very disappointed that the auction could not take place. Thousands of dollars in donations were received, and the food had been tested by the capstone food service management class”, stated Nancy King, instructor for auction. “It’s like many events, things change, and you have to ‘go with the flow’; all part of the event planning process.”
Even though the 2020 auction was a no-go, mark your calendars for the platinum anniversary of the auction as we celebrate 25 years on March 26, 2021 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan. Plans have already begun for this event and we have great auction items ready for you to bid on. In fact, we are looking forward to inviting past TDA students for a reunion at the 25th anniversary event. Reach out to Nancy King (nhansen@k-state.edu) if you were in the auction class or worked on TDA prior to the class forming as we would love to extend an invitation for you to join us back in Manhattan.
