Meet Kelly Gawlak

Combining accounting, graphic design and playing guitar is one unique combination of interests. Kelly Gawlak, a junior from Wichita, blends all three together to shape her K-State experience.

She began her K-State academic career as a graphic design major. Her interest in the field stemed from her involvement with the student newspaper in high school and working with design programs. She eventually realized that graphic design was more of a hobby and not something she would want to do as a full-time career.

“After finishing my freshman year I really felt like it wasn’t where I was supposed to be and I did a lot of research. I basically went through K-State’s list of majors in every college and narrowed it down to what I’d be good at,” said Gawlak.

Gawlak consulted a few students she knew pursuing an accounting degree and decided to declare the major. She likes accounting because the discipline is meticulous and detail oriented, just like graphic design. Gawlak is still able to use her graphic design skills to create banners and signs for the Professional Advantage Program. She likes having the opportunity to create graphics and come up with themes in a less stressful environment.
