During the late 1920s artist John Steuart Curry (1897-1946) gained national attention for his portrayals of Kansas. At the height of his career, during the 1930s, he would become associated with prominent Regionalists Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri and Grant Wood of Iowa.

Exhibition Opening for Kansas Veterinarian at Work: A Portrait by Tom Mohr

Join us for the celebration of the exhibition Kansas Veterinarian at Work: A Portrait by Tom Mohr.

Public reception will be on February 9, starting at 6:00 pm with a cash bar and Hors d’oeuvre by featured caterer Little Apple Brewery. The reception will wrap up at 7:30 but the galleries will remain open until 8:00 pm.

Join museum staff for the new Second Saturday Selections at 1 or 2:30 p.m. for a conversation about selections from the permanent collection or current exhibitions.

The Veterinarian’s War: Lieutenant Harry Hunt in the World War

The Veterinarian’s War: Lieutenant Harry Hunt in the World War

In 1917, Kansas State Agricultural College graduate Harry Hunt followed his country into World War I and was sent to France as a large animal veterinarian tasked with caring for the beasts that pulled the guns of war. The things Lt. Hunt saw, recorded in vivid detail in the letters he sent home, describe a time often forgotten by history. Speaker Jed Dunham is a freelance writer and creator of the “48 Fallen 48 Found Project.”

 

Classes and Workshops

 Valentines Workshop for All Ages

Saturday, February 4, 1:30-3 p.m.
All the supplies you need to create the perfect Valentines for friends and loved ones, plus snack to fuel your creativity. Reservations are not required but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Materials fee: $5, $2.50 for military families.

Winter/Spring 2017 ARTSmart Programs for Children and Families

“Math/Art Connections”: Classes will focus math concepts – shape, form, space, etc. Each class includes gallery discussion and activities and an art project that will allow participants to explore media and techniques.

Cost is $3 per child. Call 785.532.7718 or e-mail klwalk@k-state.edu for reservations. Children must be accompanied by an adult. If you must cancel, we would appreciate a call.

Homeschool Tuesdays

January 3, 1-2:30 Picturing Kansas

Classes meet on the first Tuesday of the month and allow Homeschool families a chance to participate in the museum’s school field trip program and are appropriate for those in Kindergarten on up.  Each tour will have an early elementary and upper elementary to middle school track.
