Primitive: The Art and Life of Horace H. Pippin
A reading with discussion by Janice N. Harrington
Learn about the work of African-American folk artist, Horace H. Pippin. What did it mean to be an African-American soldier during World War I? What was life like for African-American families at the turn of the century? After a lively, interactive audience-driven discussion of paintings by Horace H. Pippin, Harrington will share poetry and reflections on the life and art of this astonishing painter.

K-State Libraries; Department of American Ethnic Studies; and Department of English. Reception to follow.

The Martial Adventures of Henry and Me
Senior educator Kathrine Schlageck will give an illustrated talk on the tale of William Allen White and Henry J. Allen visiting the WWI front with the Red Cross.
The Martial Adventures of Henry and Me was written by White and illustrated by Tony Sarg, puppet master, cartoonist, and
author/illustrator.
The museum has received a selection of the original Tony Sarg illustrations.

“Math/Art Connections”: Classes will focus math concepts – shape, form, space, etc. Each class includes gallery discussion and activities and an art project that will allow participants to explore media and techniques.
