Beach Museum of Art goes “Inside Out”

Though the museum is temporarily closed due to the pandemic, we invite you to visit “Inside Out.”

Enjoy this outdoor walking tour of art in lighted window displays around the museum building. As you walk, don’t miss the signs offering information about the artworks on display. The views are especially striking at twilight; bring binoculars to zoom in on details. Please let us know what you think and don’t forget to tag the museum if you share your photos on social media!

Join us for a conversation with this nationally recognized artist about her works in the museum’s permanent collection.

A full afternoon of interesting activities at the virtual museum! Tour an exhibition, listen to a ceramic artist’s revelation of Waylande Gregory’s technical innovations, hear two outrageously creative minds discuss connections between the most ancient form of science and 21st c. technology, and join in with your own comments and questions.

Tentative Schedule:

  • 2 p.m.: “Innovations in Clay: Waylande Gregory” talk by K-State Assistant Professor of Art Nick Geankoplis
  • 3 p.m.: “Technological Shamanism in the 21st Century” a conversation with FIELD STATION 4 artist Charles Lindsay and Kevin Kelly, Senior Maverick for Wired magazine.

Join artist and filmmaker Minisa Crumbo Halsey as she responds to questions about her efforts to document the career of her father, Woodrow (Woody) Crumbo (1912-1989), a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Crumbo made contributions to American culture as an artist, dancer, concert musician, art educator, and museum administrator. During the late 1940s, he was hired to assemble the American Indian art collection for the Thomas Gilcrease Institute in Tulsa. He later became director of the El Paso Museum of Arts in Texas.

Virtual ARTSmart classes

Sign up for by joining Beach Buddies Facebook Group!

ARTSmart weekly classes are designed for preschool children and up. Each class will begin with a looking activity focused on a work from the museum’s collection, followed by information about the artist, an academic connection, a story book suggestion and an art project.

Classes will post to the Beach Buddies Facebook Group on Mondays. Families may also opt to have ARTSmart units emailed to them on Mondays. Please contact Associate Curator of Education Kathrine Schlageck at klwalk@ksu.edu to be added to the email list.

Beach Buddies is the museum’s Facebook group with resources and fun activities for children, families, and educators.

Voices: Artists Who Inspire. This weekly series is prompted by the book Between the Lines, a biography of African-American artist Ernie Barnes. It features artists represented in the collection of the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art. We hope these biographies will provide creative encouragement for all young artists.
