Six students took home $2,500 in cash prizes as part of the recent Edward Jones Sales Competition, a collaboration between the National Strategic Selling Institute in Kansas State University’s College of Business Administration and Edward Jones.
The competition saw students putting their selling skills to the test in a role-playing scenario as an Edward Jones financial adviser. Their objective in the role-play was to convince a prospect to use Edward Jones for his or her financial advising services by securing a second appointment to further discuss the prospect’s investment portfolio.
Students had approximately eight minutes to complete the call. Their role-plays were then evaluated and scored by a panel of judges consisting of faculty and Edward Jones representatives.
“The caliber of students involved in the National Strategic Selling Institute program and the sales competitions is stellar, and the improvements I see in their quality each year continue to astound me,” said D.C. Hackerott, Edward Jones financial advisor and judge in the competition. “They certainly don’t make it easy to choose the top competitors!”
Four students took home $500 top prizes, while two students earned $250 prizes:
Ashleigh Bunker, senior in marketing, Ellis, $500; Taylor Fry, junior in marketing, Great Bend, $250; Nicholas Ramsey, junior in finance, Hutchinson, $500; Helen Dinkel, senior in marketing, Leawood, $500; and Ashley Ebeck, junior in finance, Paola, $250.
From out of state: Dan Burger, junior in entrepreneurship, Minnetonka, Minnesota, $500.
