I am amazed at the outstanding students in our Personal Financial Planning at Kansas State University. I have had the pleasure to travel with some of our students to conferences over the past few months. Colleagues and prospective employers from across the country consistently make compliments about our students, commenting on the bright futures ahead of them. I whole-heartedly agree. Here are some recent highlights of what we have been up to on a national level.
Mari Erb (SR), Abby Pope (JR), and Nolan Keim (SR) competed in the Knowledge Bowl at the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) annual onference that was held in San Diego, CA where they placed 2nd. Many students across all of our programs and faculty presented research at the AFCPE and the Financial Therapy Association conferences that were co-located at the same venue.
In January, Mari Erb (SR) and Scott McGehee (SR) attended the TD Ameritrade Conference in Orlando, FL. TDA Institutional invites students from financial planning programs to attend their professional development track specifically designed for students. Students gain valuable skills in presenting themselves, networking and interviewing.
Faculty and doctoral students attended and presented research at CFP Board Conference. School Director, Dottie Durband was a keynote speaker on the topic of pro-bono opportunities for students during the CFP Board Program Directors conference.
Allison Becker (SR), Joseph Nafziger (SR), & Scott McGehee (SR) were finalists in the national Society of Financial Service Professionals Industry Issues Competition. As part of the competition, they interviewed professionals in financial planning related professions and wrote a paper that earned them a trip on a cruise. On the cruise, they competed in the finals by presenting their work. During the same event, both Joseph Nafziger and Scott McGehee participated in the Elevator Speech Contest. This was a voluntary event. Scott McGehee placed 2nd.
These events only capture a few of the amazing opportunities in which our students have participated, as many more students have been engaged in local and regional events as well. Now students are landing jobs and summer internships! Below is a list of seniors and where they will be going after graduation in May. Also, I’ve included a list of students and where they will be interning this summer. Note that this list is in progress, but it will give you a great idea about where students will be gaining valuable experiences! Follow us on Twitter or “like” us on Facebook to keep up to date on the many things we are doing!
