PFP doctoral program receives prestigious research awards at Financial Planning Association Conference

Nicholas A. Carr, Ph.D., CIMA®, a 2014 spring semester doctoral graduate, and a team of doctoral students led by Assistant Professor Martin C. Seay, Ph.D., CFP®, received best research paper awards at the Financial Planning Association’s (FPA) Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington, several weeks ago.

Begun in 2013, the FPA Academic Track seeks to attract presentations on cutting edge research that has significant potential to impact the personal financial planning profession.

Carr’s paper was awarded the Best Theoretical Paper. It was based on his doctoral dissertation “Reassessing the Assessment: Exploring the Factors that Contribute to Comprehensive Financial Risk Evaluation.” Cliff Robb was one of his dissertation mentors.

Seay and his team of doctoral students presented “To leverage or not to leverage: Psychological implications of mortgage debt in retirement” which was awarded the Best Applied Research Paper.

Students were Sarah Asebedo, Cametra Thompson, Cherie Stueve and Riccardo Russi. Asebedo presented the paper before FPA Conference attendees.

Both awards consisted of an engraved Lucite plaque as well as a $500 cash award that were donated by Michael Kitces’ Nerd’s Eye View.
