Evening entertainment featured the Guitar Duo Rick Smith and Dr. Wayne Goins

Approximately 200 visitors stopped by The Gardens for its first September Stroll on Friday, September 18. Many guests were first time visitors to the gardens, traveling from nearby locations, as well as from other states. Although it was a chilly evening, visitors enjoyed Call Hall Ice Cream and purple punch provided and served by the Friends of The Gardens Board. While on their “stroll” visitors were entertained with live music by a Guitar Duo featuring Rick Smith and Dr. Wayne Goins, Professor in K-State’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance. Inside The Gardens’ Quinlan Visitor Center, guests were able to view design drawings and take a 3-D virtual tour of the future conservatory.  Continue reading “A September stroll in The Gardens”

In 2006, a 21-member Board of Directors for the Friends of The Gardens was established, along with a Constitution and By-laws, with each board member serving a 3-year term. Each Sunday my foster mother prepared the floral arrangements for the church altar and in July she entered her floral arrangements in the county fair competition. She obviously had a special love for growing, and great skill with planting and cultivating to produce such stunning arrays of flowers every year. Continue reading “Why I care about The Gardens”
