Lifeline 911 Bill One Step Closer to Being Made Law

Andy Hurtig, Student Body President
Andy Hurtig, Student Body President

“We couldn’t be more excited that our state is just one final step away from having Lifeline 911 passed into law. When it comes to student safety, situations of life and death should always be considered with utmost responsibility. We feel passionately that this legislation can keep one student’s dangerous decision from resulting in the ultimate consequence, as this law will give students the confidence to make the call in alcohol-related medical emergencies. We feel this is not only an important achievement on behalf of student safety, but also a tremendous testament to the role that student governments in the state of Kansas can play in advocating for student interests at all levels of government.”

Letter from the Vice President for Student Life Pat Bosco

boscoLast month I shared the following message with students, faculty, and staff.  I encourage you to read, and discuss with your student during the winter break.

Recent events around the country provide an opportunity for this university to reaffirm our commitment to respect, human dignity and social justice. At our school, we strongly support the principles of community and continue efforts to provide a welcoming, supportive and, most importantly, a responsive climate for our students, faculty and staff. Sadly, racism and other forms of discrimination exist everywhere, including here. This is not the K-State way.

It’s our job to make sure everyone has the chance to be successful — in the classroom, at work and in our communities. This is America 2015 and we must all do better…now. By living these principles, we provide all K-Staters a voice to show respect for one another and recognize every person’s value.

We pledge to educate, listen, and respond to anything that interferes with success at our university. We know we are not perfect, but we care and want to do better. Our hearts of purple are extended to all who are working toward ending all kinds of discrimination on college campuses. Continue reading “Letter from the Vice President for Student Life Pat Bosco”

Update on Changes to the Weapons Possession Policy at State Universities

Kansas State University considers the safety of students, faculty, staff and all employees the ultimate priority. As a campus community, we have continued our discussion of campus safety measures, gun control, and the Kansas Board of Regents plans to implement the law passed by the Kansas Legislature in 2013 for concealed carry. The long break: How to navigate and enjoy your time together

By Molly McGaughey

My favorite, newly found TV show is The Middle. It’s been around for a while but I didn’t discover it until this summer. I think at this point I’ve seen almost every episode. And it’s not a guilty pleasure if I’m willing to announce to the world that I love it, right? One of the things I love best about the show is that it depicts a family that is terribly imperfect but still incredibly likeable.
