This year’s All University Open House was held on April 11. Different departments, clubs and organizations from across Kansas State University, set out to attract new students by giving them a taste of Manhattan, Kansas.
In the fall of 2012, I transferred from Modesto Junior College in California to Kansas State University. Throughout my time at K-State, the Department of Communications and Agricultural Education has been a huge support system and has been there to guide me through each step of my educational career.

When I visited K-State as a senior in high school nearly five years ago, I met with a lot of great people. My favorite part of the day was meeting with College of Agriculture Ambassadors. It was cool to hear their stories about K-State and why they loved the College of Ag so much. When I enrolled as a student, I knew that I wanted to be an ambassador, so that I too could share my K-State story.
This year for spring break, I visited Washington, D.C., with my dad, Joe Newland, and Kansas Farm Bureau. My dad serves on the KFB Board of Directors for the third district. The trip focused on meeting with our state legislators; however, we did take time to do a little sightseeing.

The Farm to Fork 5k will be April 11, 2015, on K-State’s campus, starting and ending in front of Waters Hall. The run, which is hosted by the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT), will take runners around campus and provide information at water stations about the process of turning a raw agricultural product into the finished food on their plate.

The Food and Nutrition Science Institute is part of a joint food science curriculum project involving Kansas State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Career Education. The institute brings agriculture, food and consumer science, and science teachers from Kansas and Nebraska together for a week-long training on how to deliver project-based curriculum materials in the classroom.

For the third year in a row, a College of Agriculture graduate was recognized as a Distinguished Young Alumnus.
A native of Oberlin, Kansas, Corey Fortin is a commissioned member of the United States Foreign Service with the U. S. Agency for International Development in Uganda and one of two 2015 Distinguished Young Alumni. After one year in Washington, D.C., Fortin spent two years in Kenya and was then transferred to his current post in Uganda.
