The museum staff is pleased to share that Humanities Kansas recently awarded grant support for the exhibition “To the Stars Through Art: A History of Art Collecting in Kansas Public Schools, 1900-1950.” The exhibition has been organized by Curator Elizabeth Seaton in collaboration with regional scholars and museum curators. It is the first survey of art collecting by schools in Kansas and the first study of art acquired by the nation’s schools to give attention to boarding schools for Indigenous students. The exhibition features more than sixty artworks acquired by over a dozen school districts across Kansas.
“The humanities generate ideas,” shared Julie Mulvihill, Humanities Kansas Executive Director. “This unique exhibition project will spark plenty of ideas and invite conversations on the role of art in education.”
The museum staff is grateful for the funding provided by Humanities Kansas, which will support the “To the Stars Through Art” exhibition and related public programs.
