Cliff Robb, PhD, associate professor, received the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) Best Paper Award at the 2015 American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI) Annual Conference (May 2015) for the paper, Relationship of Objective and Subjective Knowledge with College Student Financial Behaviors, co-authored by PFP Doctoral Students Richard Stebbins and Lloyd Zimmerman. Robb is the immediate past president of ACCI.

Kristy Archuleta received a Faculty Development Award from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs for Presenting at the Financial Therapy Association Annual Conference, in the amount of $1,700. The Financial Therapy Association (FTA), which was formed in 2009, had its Seventh Annual Conference in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, in July. Archuleta is the editor of the Journal of Financial Therapy, and outgoing president of the FTA.

 

The Second Edition of the Financial Planning Competency Handbook, published by Wiley and the CFP Board, was released this month for use by financial planning students, practitioners, prospects, clients and educators. Sonya L. Britt, PhD, CFP®; Bradley T. Klontz, PsyD, CFP®; Ronald A. Sages, PhD, AEP®, CFP®, CTFA, EA; Seay; Archuleta; and Coulson, as well as several graduate students, served as contributing authors to the updated text. In addition to a major expansion and revision of the first edition, the new edition contains online questions that are eligible for up to 28 continuing education hours for Certified Planner Professionals®.

Ashley Herb, PFP senior, was the only student panelist at the InvestmentNews Women Adviser Summit in Chicago in early May. Herb’s panel discussion revolved around methods to attract and mentor emerging women advisers into the personal financial planning profession by existing women advisers.

PFP faculty, students, alums, and friends of the program participated in Financial Planning Day on May 1. Karen McCulloh, mayor of Manhattan, issued an official proclamation marking the day.

Ann Coulson presented on the topic of ethics at the annual Insurance and Financial Advisors Continuing Education Conference (IFACE), Manhattan, Kansas, hosted by Kansas State University Foundation, April 29th. She also was a featured speaker at the CFP® Board Registered Program Conference in Washington, DC recently where her topic was “The next generation: what can we do to help?”
