Helping Those Who Serve: New Scholarship Assists Military Distance Students

Allan Sicat ’03, Alumni Fellow and scholarship donor.

When Allan Sicat ‘03, former U.S. Army officer, earned his degree online, he had no idea what impact he’d make on his alma mater a decade later.

To transition from military to civilian life and prepare for the corporate world, Allan completed an online master’s degree in engineering management. Because of his professional accomplishments and distinguished career service in the years following graduation, Allan was selected as the Division of Continuing Education’s first Alumni Fellow in 2011.

The honor of serving in this new role for the division, coupled with his affinity for the university, gave Allan a strong desire to give back to K-State. So he did something else that had never been done before—he started a scholarship fund specifically for distance students involved in the military.

Distance Program Spotlight

Master of Psychology with an Emphasis in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (MIOP)

Sometimes the most important component of a distance program happens face-to-face.

Each summer, students in the Master of Psychology with emphasis in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (MIOP) program travel to K-State’s Manhattan campus. There, they experience an intensive two-week session that both students and instructors call the “heart and soul” of this hybrid distance program.

2013 Alumni Fellow

Brigadier General Mark R. Stammer ’99 serves as the Division of Continuing Education’s 2013 Alumni Fellow.

Brig. Gen. Stammer was among the first cohort of students to complete a Kansas State University master’s degree in adult, occupational and continuing education offered through Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

Spring 2013 Graduates

New Professional MBA Online
