Where: The Wareham, 410 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan

Food:  Hand-carved Kansas City Striploin; Wood-Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast with choice of sauce; Roasted new potatoes; Sautéed Fresh Vegetable Medley; Field Green Salad; Dinner rolls with butter; Walnut Fudge Brownies & Lemon Bars; Cash Bar

The NSSI Benefit Auction allows our Advanced Sales Students to learn about territory  management, prospecting, phone sales, customer relationship management systems (salesforce.com), and the sales process in a real-world setting. The students are tasked with finding items for the auction and selling tickets to the auction. Fifty-percent of the net proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan; the remaining 50% of the net proceeds to toward programming for students, including equipment for our innovative sales labs, professional development programming, student scholarships, and travel for the K-State Sales Team, the Sales Cats.

About the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan:  Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan offers a safe haven after school where children and youth experience positive, character-guiding activities, complete their homework, and receive support from caring role models.  All programs focus on five core areas: (1) character & leadership; (2) education & career development; (3) health & life skills; (4) the arts; and (5) sports, fitness & recreation. Funds raised will assist in the following areas: before and after-school programs and summer programs for grades K thru 8, teen programs for 7th grade thru18 years of age, and Little Dribblers Basketball for grades 1 and 2.

Esther Swilley, associate professor and L.L. McAninch chair in business, presented “Blog, Pin and Online Review Effects on Advertising Attitudes and Purchase Intentions” at the inaugural lecture in the Boyer-Switzer Lecture Series on February 28, 2014 at Kansas State University.  Swilley’s areas of research focus on electronic commerce, mobile marketing, and technology and marketing. College of Business breaks ground for new building

Breaking ground for new College of Business Administration building

It was a great day to be a Wildcat and I hope you were able to take part.  If you could not be there, let me describe it to you.  On October 25th, 2013 approximately 500 alumni, staff, faculty, students, and dignitaries from across Kansas converged at the site of the soon-to-be home of the College of Business Administration.  The new building will be located in a vacant field between the President’s house and Manhattan Avenue.    Speeches were short and humorous, the mood was festive.  Many of the alumni who have supported this monumental effort with their generous financial donations were on hand to see the ground breaking.  The hard hats were purple (of course) and the shovels were silver.   The band played the fight song and the Wabash Cannonball while Willie paraded around and kept everyone enthused.   Following the turning of the soil, we retreated back to the east lawn of Calvin Hall for a celebratory lunch.  Continue reading “College of Business breaks ground for new building”

Marketing senior Ashlee Hampton and junior Philip Hill presented their research, along with associate professor of marketing Esther Swilley, at the Society for Marketing Advances conference held in Hilton Head, S.C. Their presentation, “Examining Blog, Pin and Online Review Effects on Advertising Attitudes and Purchase Intentions,” discussed the effects of social media on consumers’ attitudes toward products, traditional advertisements and ultimately purchase decisions. Bente and Swinder Janda present study abroad research at conference in Australia

Collaborating to better understand student attitudes toward study abroad programs, Bente Janda, director of undergraduate student services in the College of Business Administration, and Swinder Janda, professor of marketing and Robert M. Edgerley chair in global business, presented a paper at the 2013 World Marketing Congress in Melbourne, Australia in July. NSSI Sales Cats Sales Team Update

The Sales Cats Sales Team of the National Strategic Selling Institute had an exciting fall semester! In addition to our Edward Jones Sales Competition here on campus, the sales team members attended four competitions.Image of Willie Sales Cat   The Edward Jones Sales Competition determines who we will take to the National Collegiate Sales Competition at Kennesaw University (March 28-31, 2014).  This year’s Edward Jones winners are Ryan Knight, Ashlynn Knoll, Jake Pritchard, and Alex Robinson.  Cheyenne Meredith and Blair Wilen are team alternates.  We are currently preparing for Kennesaw and look forward to beating our 11th place finish last year.
